Drink driver jailed after crash

A man who caused over ?8000 worth of damage when crashing his employers van into an MEA junction box after drinking, has been jailed for 60 days.

Police traced Brian Karran of Tynwald Road and saw his van had been damaged. Mr Karran, charged with driving without due care, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident, caused nearly ?2000 of damage to a primary school fence in Willaston.

A sample was taken and established his blood alcohol level at 225 against a legal limit of 80. In addition to jail, he has lost his license for three years. The accident meant a local power cut for some hours.
