Tribute to former Island couple

Tribute has been paid to a former Island couple who were killed when they were hit by a car while crossing a road in South Africa last Friday.

Patrick and Jean McQuillen were on holiday in Cape Town (pictured) when the tragedy occurred.

Mr McQuillen, who was the managing director of Halifax in Douglas, and his wife left the Island in 1997 and lived in East Sussex.

That was after he oversaw the merger between Leeds Overseas and Halifax.

66 year-old Mr McQuillen had recently achieved a lifelong ambition by gaining his private pilot's licence.

Former colleague and a member of his management team, Annie Anderson, said staff were shocked when they heard the news:
