Disabled workshop update

by isleofman.com 21st February 2007
The delay behind the refurbishment and relocation of the Manx Workshop for the Disabled is to be investigated by a Tynwald select committee.

More than ?100,000 is needed to refurbish a former workshop at the old Noble's Hospital in Douglas so the charity can move out its Nissen hut base in Glencrutchery Road.

The charity, which provides jobs for 15 disabled people, is concerned it could close because of a lack of government funds needed for relocation.

Delays have seen the workshop run up large bills and last month, the Department of Trade and Industry handed over ?10,000 to help the charity clear some of its debts.

The Lord Bishop, the Right Reverend Graeme Knowles; Douglas East MHK Phil Braidwood and Malew and Santon member Graham Cregeen, will form the committee.

And there’ll be more on this story on Mandate PM at 5.30 this evening.
