The Marine Accident Investigation Branch has now completed a preliminary examination of the circumstances surrounding a collision in the Mersey involving a Steam Packet fast craft.

The accident involved the Sea Express 1 and tanker ship Alaska Rainbow on Saturday 3rd February. It happened in thick fog and caused serious structural damage and flooding to the Sea Express.

The vessel was withdrawn from service for repair, and since then the hunt has been on for a replacement.

The MAIB has now launched a full investigation.
