Tynwald February sitting

by isleofman.com 20th February 2007
31 questions for oral answer will get this month's Tynwald sitting underway.

Subjects range from civil servants pay and fluoridation of the Island's water supply, to the Ronaldsway runway extension and benefits for the less well off.

There are then 47 items on the main agenda for members to consider.

Beth Espey takes a look at some of them:

There are a couple of financial bids first of all, one from the Department of Local Government for just over ?225,000 for the building of two first time buyer homes in Andreas and a call for a supplementary vote of ?2.9 million for the Department of Health to cover the cost of treatment in the UK. There are then a number of committee and board membership proposals to be approved, and several social services acts to be passed.

Then North Douglas MHK, John Houghton will call for a committee to look into why the refurbishment and relocation of the Manx Workshop for the Disabled has been subject to "years of prevarication and delay", Rushen MHK, Phil Gawne, will ask Tynwald to get behind the Fairtrade movement and finally Michael member David Cannan will call for the work of the Boundary committee to be delayed until the outcome of the Constitution Bill is known.

Tynwald proceedings will be broadcast in full from 10.30 this morning on AM 1368.
