Energy efficiency exhibition opens

by isleofman.com 19th February 2007
Trade and Industry Minister David Cretney has delivered a keynote speech on energy efficiency.

His comments come at the opening of an exhibition about the issue at the Villa Marina which runs until Wednesday this week.

The event shows how businesses and households can save money and help the environment through reduced energy consumption.

Mr Cretney revealed a DTI study into renewable energy sources for the Island has now been made public.

Mr Cretney says the report by consultants at Aquaterra looks into the most appropriate sources of renewable energy for the Isle of Man.

Commissioned last year, the report and its findings can now be downloaded form the government website at www.gov.im/dti/energy

He says it’s sure to spark debate, as it suggests offshore wind farms and tidal projects offer the best potential for greener Manx energy.

Mr Cretney says there will almost certainly be concerns about the impact such projects would have on the environment and the appearance of the Island.
