Harbour group formed to assist Port St Mary

by isleofman.com 17th February 2007
Transport Minister, David Anderson, has promised a fresh start in the relationship between his department and the people of Port St Mary.

A consultation group has been formed to develop a scheme that would improve the village's harbour facilities.

The group is made up of harbour users from the Yacht Club and RNLI, as well as community representatives - members of the commissioners and the three Rushen MHKs.

The first meeting was held earlier this week.

Director of Harbours, Mike Brew, says extending the life of the Alfred Pier for the next 50 to 100 is the priority.

He says incorporating a marina is one idea that should be considered very seriously.

Mr Anderson says no planning applications will be pursued without the support of the southern MHKs.
