Town hall hopes

Port St Mary Commissioners have revealed how they hope to refurbish the town hall.

Along with the Department of Local Government, the local authority is investigating the use of capital receipts from disposal of the Gelling Avenue recreation centre, for the refurbishment.

The announcement came as the port’s rate dropped 3.5 per cent to 301p in the pound.

For the first time in four years, the village is now officially in the black.

The commissioners announced a surplus of ?3,050 for last year and an estimated surplus of ?27,500 at the end of March this year.
