Landmark for Government radio system

by isleofman.com 14th February 2007
A flagship Isle of Man government radio system reached a significant landmark yesterday evening.

The TETRA network, and associated Emergency Services Joint Control Room, handled its three millionth call after almost three years in operation.

The ESJCR handles 999 calls, while the radio network processes messages from the likes of the emergency services, TT marshals, the Water Authority and MEA workers.

Home Affairs Minister, Martyn Quayle says the system has been one of the biggest successes of joined up government, describing it as a true cross-departmental initiative.

All 999 calls made on the Island are answered in less than two seconds, a statistic Mr Quayle describes as unmatched, meaning the system is the envy of many other jurisdictions.
