Driving range gets knock-back

by isleofman.com 14th February 2007
An appeal that, if successful, would have enabled work to continue on a golf driving range at the King Edward Bay Golf club has been turned down.

Golf and Leisure Limited had been given permission to in-fill land, to create the range, but it was due to be completed by July last year.

They said that the delay in the work by contractors was due to delays in two Government contracts which had had knock on effects.

They suggested that they could complete the work in twelve months but asked that that period should only start once suitable infill was available.

The Inspector David Hollis was not impressed, saying that this could extend the period indefinitely. He described the site in its present site as "not attractive".

He held that despite blame being ascribed to Government contract delays, the onus was on the appellants to ensure compliance. And he warned the that the Minister would consider legal proceedings if the contravention of the planning permission was not rectified.
