Funding boost for Manx Workshop

The Manx Workshop for the Disabled will receive government support for the next six months.

Minister for Trade and Industry, David Cretney, says his department and Health and Social Security have been working closely to investigate the best way to support the needs of those with disabilities who are seeking employment.

To this end, he authorised the payment of ?10,000 from his department to the workshop earlier this month.

The DHSS, which provides an annual payment of ?84,000 to the workshop, has agreed to a further six months period of support from April 1 this year.

However, speaking in the House of Keys this morning (Tuesday) in response to a question from North Douglas MHK John Houghton, Mr Cretney (pictured) says the way forward long-term needs to be considered (audio file attached):
