Harbour offers hand to cruise passengers

by isleofman.com 13th February 2007
Planning permission is being sought for a half million pound pontoon in Douglas harbour to enable cruise ship passengers to disembark more speedily and in greater comfort.

With the Manx pushing for a greater share of the sector it is seen as important that tourists are offered a more comfortable way of getting onto Manx soil than drawing up alongside the Victoria Pier, the outer Pier. It also can create problems when vessels are due to berth.

It is hoped that, if planning is gained and the necessary funds are made available in the Departments annual finances, after the Manx budget on March 20th, then sufficient progress can be made to bring the infrastructure into use this year when a number of cruise liner visits are expected.

Passengers would use the pontoon then steps up through Circus beach and into the Terminal.
