by isleofman.com 13th February 2007
The House of Keys will have another stab at filling the two empty seats on the Legislative Council this morning.

None of the original five candidates achieved sufficient votes at the last attempt, in January.

Now three remain - we'll find out how much more support they've garnered when the vote is taken at the end of today's sitting of the Keys

Marian Kenny reports:

The remaining candidates are former Ramsey MHK Charles Cain, the former North Douglas MHK and MLC Alan Crowe and Peel Commissioner John Lightfoot.

At the last vote: Charles Cain secured six votes, Alan Crowe 10, while John Lightfoot polled just three votes - all short of the 13 required.

Before the election the Keys will consider six questions - north Douglas member John Houghton querying the future prospects of the Manx Workshop for the Disabled and the Laxey pipe factory.

Peter Karran wants reassurances the DHSS has no plans for drastic staff reductions after a leaked report suggested that may happen in the United Kingdom

He'll also raise concerns over ferry services to the Island and ask whether schools can be used to accomodate visitors during the TT.
