by isleofman.com 9th February 2007
A long-serving police officer who was last month convicted of drink driving has been forced to resign from the force.

Manx Radio understands 36 year-old Constable William Moffatt was required to resign with immediate effect after meeting the Chief Constable over an allegation of criminal conduct.

Moffatt, from the Roads Policing Unit, was last month banned from the roads for 14 months and fined ?700 for the offence, committed in Andreas in November.

In passing sentence, High Bailiff Michael Moyle told the court he hoped the defendant would not lose his job as a result.
