Pensions - union boss urges transparency

The Manx Treasury is being asked to come clean and explain the full extent of the likely deficiencies in the government's pension schemes over the coming years.

Trades Union Council President Bernard says accountants have worked out the figures, and a detailed breakdown should now be made public.

Earlier this week Treasury Minister Allan Bell revealed payments under the schemes would total ?37 million by 2011, compared with ?21 million five years ago.

Mr Moffatt is concerned services might have to be cut to meet the commitments to members.

However, he says there is time to address the problem, and there is no reason why such schemes shouldn't continue (audio file attached):
