Sawn-off shotgun - man adjourned for reports

by isleofman.com 8th February 2007
Sentence on a 24 year old man who shortened the barrel of a shotgun has been adjourned by the High Bailiff for reports.

Craig John William Evans of Jurby admitted that he sawed five inches off the gun's barrel.

Inspector Helen Mason said the offence came to light following an incident at the rear of the Central Hotel in Ramsey on December 2nd.

Kate Skinner reports:

(Text of attached audio)
Two firearms were found in the defendant's car and one had been shortened from 24 inches to 19.

Evan's advocate Ian Crennell said there was nothing sinister about it. The defendant used the gun for game shooting and then out of season for shooting rooks and rabbits.

He shortened it to get a wider spread of shot and to enable him to shoot more rooks because he was shooting from a hide.

Mr Moyle said it was a serious matter and he required reports.

Evans was bailed until March 6th.
