Snow patrol

Snow is still expected on the Island today (Thurs), but conditions are not expected to be as bad as previously forecast.

Outbreaks of rain, sleet and snow are expected to spread northwards through the morning and into the afternoon, but at low levels most of the precipitation will be light and mainly of sleet with any accumulations of snow being small.

A few centimetres of snow is still possible on ground above 500 feet with some drifting likely in the strong southeast winds.

Through this evening and the first part of the night the risk of any remaining snow will become confined to the highest parts above about 1000 feet.

Forecaster Colin Gartshore says the Island should escape the worst of today's wintry conditions over much of Britain:
