Inquest hears elderly woman choked

by isleofman.com 7th February 2007
An inquest has heard an 88 year old Ramsey woman died after choking on her food.

Mary Francisca Black, of Brookfield Nursing Home, was eating her lunch when staff noticed she was in difficulty.

They did their best to clear her airways and called an ambulance.

Mrs Black was attended to at hospital, but doctors decided, after consulting with her family, it would be best to stop treatment which would only prolong her suffering.

Coroner Michael Moyle recorded a verdict of accidental death from aspiration pneumonia due to food entering Mrs Black's lungs.
