A 33 year old man has been jailed by the High Bailiff for three months.

Peter Liam Creer of Waterloo Road, Ramsey, appeared for sentence after admitting being drunk and disorderly and assaulting a police officer.

Creer was arrested in Laxey just after midnight on December 31st after he pushed the door of a police car against a constable's leg.

The officer was trying to arrest another man when Creer intervened. Creer had to be subdued with the use of spray.

His advocate Jim Travers said the defendant was not offering excuses to the offences, he had a serious drink problem. The contact with the officer's leg was caused by recklessness and was not intentional.

However, the defendant's recollection of the evening were hazy, and Creer told the court that he would have never have harmed the police. He simply fell against the door.

He thanked Mr Moyle, who made an order banning him from purchasing or being sold alcohol for 18 months, and from licenced premises for the same period.
