Pension bill up by ?9 million

The annual cost of all government pension schemes has increased by ?9 million over the last five years.

The figures were revealed in the House of Keys today (Tuesday) by Treasury Minister Allan Bell.

Responding to a question from Onchan MHK Peter Karran, Mr Bell confirmed payments in 2005/6 were ?30.5 million compared to ?21.5 million in 2001/02.

That figure is projected to grow a further ?6.8 million by the financial year 2010/11.
