Cars taken off Sea Express One

by isleofman.com 6th February 2007
All 53 vehicles have been removed from the fast craft Sea Express One, following Saturday's collision with the bulk carrier Alaska Rainbow in the River Mersey.

The Steam Packet vessel, which reportedly has a six by two point five metre gash in its hull, has been stabilised and moved to a Shipyard at Birkenhead for repairs.

Meanwhile, the company is looking for a replacement vessel to operate between Douglas and Liverpool, until Supersecat 2 returns, before Easter.

All passengers booked on the route are being transferred to the twice daily crossings between Douglas and Heysham, with coach transfers to Liverpool.

The Steam Packet says it is co-ooperating fully with the investigation into the incident by the United Kingdom's Marine Accident Investigation Branch, but can make no further public comment on what happened until the report has been completed.
