Mercury rising

A unusual event should be visible in the evening sky tonight.

Those looking towards the west should be able to get a very rare glimpse of the planet Mercury

The tiny planet is rarely visible due its proximity to the sun, and many astronomers never get to see the planet in their lifetime.

However, Howard Parkin from the Isle of Man Astronomical Society says at the moment the extremely bright planet Venus, which is also visible in the western sky at dusk, is acting as a pointer:
