Collision 'most serious on Mersey for years'

Liverpool coastguards say the collision between the Sea Express One and the Alaska Rainbow is one of the most serious on the Mersey for years.

Fortunately nobody was seriously injured when the vessel collided with the Alaska Rainbow, but Duty Watch Manager Steve Cross says the incident caused a full scale alert.

An emergency plan for dealing with a major disaster was implemented, involving the fire brigade, police, lifeboats and ambulance services.

Mr Cross says he’s never seen anything like it before:
