Find out about Manannan

by isleofman.com 3rd February 2007
The oldest surviving Manx Gaelic text will be the subject of a talk next week.

The Manannan or Traditional Ballad dates back to the beginning of the 16th century.

Dr Jennifer Kewley Draskau has completed a new translation into English, which she says aims to echo the distinctive voice of the original.

As part of the Centre for Mans Studies' Seminar session, she will be 'Rediscovering the Mannanan Ballad' on Thursday (Feb 8).

Dr Kewley Draskau says the text provides an important historic reference (audio file attached):

The talk will take place at Elmwood House off Glencrutchery Road and admission is free.
