A 45 year old woman has been jailed by Deemster Doyle for twelve months.

Jacqueline Mary Patricia Clague of Westland's Avenue, Ramsey, appeared for sentence after admitting one offence of the unlawful detention of the manageress of Wineworld in Christian Street, Ramsey.

Peter Carle, prosecuting, said the defendant followed the manageress into the shop at around 5pm on September 27th, locked the door and told her to phone the police.

Mr Carle said that following negotiations, when the police arrived the door was opened and Clague was detained. The woman then left.

When Clague was searched a kitchen knife was found, but she claimed that she had no intention of using the knife or threatening her victim with it and this was accepted by the court.

Her advocate said the defendant had problems and used alcohol to solve them. She was aware of the seriousness of what she had done.

Deemster Doyle said he was taking into account Clague had not used or threatened violence towards the woman. However, unlawful detention of anyone was a very serious offence
