No language problem, says education adviser

The Department of Education says there’s no evidence parents are moving children out of schools with lots of foreign pupils.

South Douglas MHK, Bill Malarkey (pictured), claimed he was aware of some parents who’d objected to the number of children who didn’t speak English as their first language.

He called for more resources to be made available in schools where it had become a problem.

But the department’s school improvements adviser for literacy, Margaret Rattigan, says she has no evidence it’s creating difficulties (audio file attached):
