Solway Harvester inquest to re-open

by isleofman.com 23rd January 2007
The long awaited Solway Harvester inquest will finally re-open on Thursday.

Two technical experts will give evidence in relation to the sinking of the vessel, which was lost with its seven crew off the Manx coast in January 2000.

After Thursday’s evidence, the inquest will then be adjourned.

It was due to re-open in November but vessel owner, South-west Scotland businessman Richard Gidney, refused to attend on the grounds it may prejudice any civil action by the families of the crewmen.

In 2005, Mr Gidney was acquitted of the manslaughter of the seven crew.

Coroner Michael Moyle is reconsidering his position on how to obtain Mr Gidney’s evidence on commission.
