Weapon licences lapsed

Police say over 300 regulated weapon licences weren't renewed in 2006.

The licences, which run for ten years, cover items such as shotguns, air pistols and crossbows.

The number represents around 10% of the total number of licences issued.

Sergeant Terry Stephen from the firearms department says that whilst they believe most people have just forgotten to renew the certificate, it is a legal requirement that they do so:
