Ellan Vannin tragedy remembered

A new television series later this month will remember the Ellan Vannin Tragedy.

Lost At Sea, a seven part series on Border Television, will celebrate the courage of those who carried out sea rescues off the coasts and remember the heroism and sacrifice of the many who have been lost to the sea.

It will also examine sea disasters up to modern times, and talk to some of the unsung heroes of rescue services.

The Ellan Vannin sank as she approached the Mersey in a terrible storm on December 3, 1909, with the loss of all 35 people onboard.

Presenter and journalist John Bevir says the programme will be of interest to Island viewers (audio file attached):
