Apartments approved for Ramsey

by isleofman.com 18th January 2007
A snooker club in central Ramsey can be converted into self-contained apartments, says DLGE Minister John Shimmin.

He reversed a decision by the planning committee to refuse permission for the conversion.

The Victoria Snooker Club in Parliament Street will become eight flats under the proposals.

Planning inspector John Turner said the redevelopment would need less parking, and although some flats would not be able to meet a planning circular’s standards he recommended the appeal be allowed

The company had been told it could not convert the flats because one requirement would be to provide a good external environment.

And although this could not be done, Mr Turner said in this case a lower standard would be acceptable to bring the building into use again.

He recommended the refusal be overturned, and Mr Shimmin agreed.

Four planning conditions will be imposed, governing facing and roofing materials as well as refuse bins.
