Gales bring down many trees

by isleofman.com 18th January 2007
Staff from the Department of Transport's Works Division have had a busy day, dealing with trees blown over by the severe weather.

Roads were blocked at locations all over the Island, and employees worked hard to keep the traffic flowing.

Routes were cleared at Greeba, on the Main Road from Douglas to Peel; Glen Maye; the Raggatt; the Garey Road, in Lezayre; the Silverdale Glen area and Minorca Hill, Laxey.

The winds also uprooted trees at the Nunnery; on the Patrick Road; Port-e-Vullen; Fairy Bridge; Port Soderick; East and West Baldwin; Poortown and Tromode Road.

More recently staff have been dealing with fallen trees between St Mark's and Ballamodha, in an incident involving MEA cables.

The road at Anagh Coar traffic lights was closed, but has been re-opened, and two dangerous trees were being removed at the junction of the Mount Murray back road and the New Castletown Road.

Roads were closed because of fallen slates in Castletown and Port Erin and near the Whitestone roundabout in Ballasalla.
