More severe gales hit the Island

by isleofman.com 18th January 2007
Drivers of high sided vehilces are being warned to stay clear of the Mountain Road today.

Severe gales are forecast for much of the day, with gusts of 60 plus miles per hour expected and even higher speeds possible over high ground

The Ben my Chree didn't dock until around 7.30 this morning, and the return sailing to Heysham at 8.45 and this afternoon's 2.45pm sailing from Heysham have been cancelled.
Passengers and vehicles are being transferred to this evening's 7.45 sailing from Douglas and the 2.15 service from Heysham on Friday morning. But those sailings will also be subject to weather conditions.

About an inch of overnight rain and strong winds left large amounts of standing water and debris on the Island's roads.

The winds should gradually ease this afternoon with the rain turning more showery.
