Support for runway extension

by isleofman.com 17th January 2007
An attempt to delay spending ?40 million on improvements at Ronaldsway Airport has been defeated in Tynwald.

A move by Onchan MHK, Peter Karran, to halt the plans and allow a committee to examine the scheme was condemned by two former Transport Ministers and the new Minister, David Anderson.

Members were advised that the main runway must be extended to meet UK and international safety standards which will become mandatory by 2010.

Chief Minister, Tony Brown emphasised that the work must be done, even to allow air travel to Ronaldsway by the size of aircraft currently in use.
