Refuse wagon crash

Police are investigating the cause of an accident in Ramsey this morning in which a refuse wagon crashed into a property in Queens Drive.

The accident happened at around nine o'clock and Roads around the area, including Stanley Mount West, the Crescent and Beaumont Road have been closed all morning and will remain closed until 6pm this evening.

The property at 17 Queens Drive has been extensively damaged. The residents escaped without injury, but have been treated for shock.

The driver of the refuse truck, a 43 year old Ramsey man, has been taken to hospital with serious fractures to his leg.

Engineers from the Manx Electricity Authority and Manx Gas have been at the scene, and gas supplies to the property have been cut off. Health and Safety officials and Structural Engineers have also been examining the damage to the property to determine what should be done to make the area safe.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the rest of the day, and use alternative routes where possible.
