Foreign exchange theft

by isleofman.com 17th January 2007
Police are appealing for witnesses after thieves got away with a large amount of money from a foreign exchange bureau on Strand Street.

The theft occurred at around 4.45pm yesterday (Tuesday) and involved two men.

The first is described as being a white European around 20 years old, of stocky build with short dyed brown hair which has blonde highlights. He was wearing blue jeans, a black leather-look jacket, black top and distinctive patent style flat shoes.

The second man is thought to be the same age, a dark skinned European, about 5 foot six in height, of slim build with short black hair. He had on a distinctive brown jacket and dark jeans.

Both men are described as having foreign accents.

Police say they'd like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Strand Street near to Regents Street late on Tuesday afternoon who may have information.

They add that the kind of techniques used in the theft are common in the rest of the UK, but thankfully not so on the Isle of Man, but are stressing that no violence was used and there are no concerns for members of the public.

CCTV pictures of the men will be posted on the Isle of Man constabulary website shortly.
