Travel watchdog formed

by isleofman.com 16th January 2007
Around sixty people attended a public meeting at the Empress Hotel in Douglas last night.

Called by the Positive Action Group, it aimed to form a Transport Watchdog Group for the Island.

Issues raised ranged from the lack of onward travel information for people arriving on the Island, to the increase in air passenger duty and the high number of winter cancellations of the fastcraft service to Liverpool.

Bus services to Nobles Hospital and Ronaldsway Isle of Man Airport were also discussed.

Chair of the Positive Action Group, Roger Tomlinson, echoed the views of the evening's guest speaker, Chairman of Travelwatch Northwest, Brendan O'Friel:

Speaking on Mandate this morning, Mr O'Friel said he believes people in watchdog groups can make a difference.

The meeting agreed that an organisation with the working title "Travelwatch Isle of Man" be established to take the issue forward, and it's hoped information will be available via a website in a few weeks time.
