North Quay plans criticised

Plans to pedestrianise North Quay in Douglas aren't pleasing everyone.

Local traders say the lack of parking will do nothing for their businesses.

And the vicar of St Matthew's Church on the Quay says he fears the loss of the many concerts and recitals held at the church. .

Already a Ladies' choir which rehearsed in the church hall has pulled out - with the loss of around ?1,200 annual income to St Matthew's.

Canon Duncan Whitworth says regular users - and his congregation - need convenient parking:

The new Trade and Industry minister David Cretney is re assuring the vicar and local traders their needs will be taken into account.

Mr Cretney says the issue of parking spaces for those who need them is being addressed - and he's certain the pedestrian scheme will prove a success in the long-term:
