Packet happy with grounding report

The Steam Packet says it’s happy with the conclusions of the Marine Accident Investigation Branch report into the grounding of the Ben my Chree last year.

The ferry ran aground as it approached Heysham on November 3 but refloated later with no damage.

In a statement, the company says the grounding was due to a very low tide and it was one of the few occasions when the tide coincided with the vessel approaching the port.

Steam Packet Marketing Manager Geoff Corkish (pictured) says the MAIB concluded a full investigation wasn't necessary.

He says the incident was a one-off in an unusual set of circumstances and neither passengers nor crew were in any danger:
