Opening Tynwald sitting of 2007

by isleofman.com 13th January 2007
There's a hefty question paper for the first Tynwald sitting of the year.

There are 31 oral queries, with a further 15 tabled for written reply.

The areas of concern this month are wide, varied and potentially quite explosive.

Eddie Lowey MLC will ask Chief Minister Tony Brown why Tynwald has been treated almost with disdain by his administrative staff by not delivering the role, duties and reporting structure of the Chief Secretary.

North Douglas member, Bill Henderson, has concerns about global warming, Peter Karran wants the reappointment of the Chief Constable blocked, while East Douglas, MHK, Brenda Cannell wants to know what safeguards there are to prevent a flood of immigrants settling in the Island from Bulgaria and Romania.

A similar question is raised in the written section by new MHK, Bill Malarkey, who ask the DTI Minister for the total number of Work Permits issued as of January 1, and their breakdown by category of business or public sector body and by nationality.

Questions will be broadcast live from 10.30am on Tuesday on Manx Radio's AM 1368 frequency.
