Asthma inhaler discontinued

by isleofman.com 13th January 2007
Asthma sufferers in the Isle of Man will no longer be prescribed the Becotide inhaler.

The brand is being discontinued from this September.

The decision has been made by producer Glaxosmithkline because that particular inhaler contains CFCs, which are harmful to the environment.

The Island's Pharmaceutical Advisor, Sue Harper, says very few people are still use this particular form of medication for the management of mild to moderate asthma.

However she stresses that anyone who does will be offered an appropriate substitute.
