Record recycling year

by isleofman.com 12th January 2007
Two thousand and six was a record year for recycling in the Isle of Man, according to the Department of Local Government and the Environment.

End of year statistics show over 1450 tonnes of paper, 1100 tonnes of glass, 20 tonnes of aluminium and two and a half tonnes of dry-cell batteries were collected from its public recycling sites.

The figures represent an 8% increase in household materials recycled compared to 2005 and 18% more than 2004.

DOLGE's recycling officer, Joanne Hetherington, is delighted with the public's response, and says the figures reflect increasing support from the Manx public, who are becoming more environmentally conscious every year.
