Manx Radio - ?11 a year per person

by isleofman.com 12th January 2007
A claim that Manx Radio is costing Isle of Man residents ?78 each a year in government subsidy has been corrected.

The incorrect figure appeared in a local newspaper and actually applies to the cost of the Island's bus services.

The actual cost of the Island's national radio station is ?11 a year per person.

The figures are in a report into Manx Radio by Tynwald's Value for Money Committee, which is due to go before next week's sitting of the Court.

Members will be asked to approve an annual subvention of ?933,650 subject to an annual inflationary review.

The report compares the cost of Manx Radio with a number of services provided by government.

They include, the TT at ?22 a year, per person; the Wildlife Park at ?5; swimming pools outside Douglas at ?13; and Manx National Heritage at ?62.
