Drink drive campaign success

The drink driving culture in the Isle of Man is being wiped out.

That's the hope of the police following the recent Christmas campaign.

Nearly 950 vehicles were stopped between December 11 and January 4, compared with just over 400 in 2005.

But despite the big increase, there were only eleven arrests for drink driving offences this year, compared with 16 last time.

Eight of the eleven people arrested have been charged, and one other is currently on bail.

Inspector Richard Power says despite the success the police will not become complacent.

He also says he never ceases to be amazed at some of the excuses people give for drink driving:
