Taxi man gets suspended sentence

by isleofman.com 11th January 2007
A 52 year old man who falsified accounts at a Ramsey taxi firm has been given a 60 day prison sentence, suspended for 18 months by the High Bailiff.

Richard Addinall of St Paul’s Square in Ramsey admitted two offences.

The defendent was a base operator at Crennell’s Taxis. He was arrested with a number of drivers after malpractices and discrepancies in the monies were discovered.

Kate Skinner reports (text from attached audio file):

Helen Mason prosecuting told the court the defendant would issue fares to the drivers and not log them and neither would the drivers.

His advocate said the defendant did not personally profit and he only got involved to keep the drivers happy.

Addinall accepted it was a breach of trust and that he had been foolish.

Mr Moyle said the defendant could have stopped the practice anytime, that the offences were serious and the amount involved must have been substantial, probably several thousand pounds.
