Warning over fire regulations

The Isle of Man's Chief Fire Officer has issued a stern warning over fire safety measures in rented accomodation.

Brian Draper's comments come in the wake of the 15-month jail term handed to landlord Lionel Diamond last week, following the death of a tenant in a fire at a flat in Demesne Road, Douglas.

Mr Draper says his inspectors will take action to ensure rented properties comply with fire regulations. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines or even a jail sentence.

Mr Draper says owners, landlords and tenants all have a responsibility to ensure homes are safe:
