MHK calls for immigration committee

Immigration to the Isle of Man cropped-up many times as an issue for voters prior to November's General Election.

But how should the Island handle immigration in future? And does government have the ability to control the numbers of foreign nationals who may wish to live here?

These issues are raised in a motion to Tynwald next week from Rushen MHK Quintin Gill.

He wants a committee set-up to review existing legislation, and report back by October with recommendations for the future.

The work permit system is often perceived as the Island's main control on immigration, but Mr Gill (pictured) says this is not the case:
