Father on son's sudden death

by isleofman.com 9th January 2007
The funeral of 17-year old Luke Ashton, who died suddenly in Ballaugh on Christmas Day, takes place in Douglas this afternoon.

The former Ramsey Grammar School pupil suffered an entirely unpredictable disturbance in the normal rhythm of his heart.

But it proved lethal. Despite desparate efforts by paramedics and those around him, Luke could not be revived, the victim of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, or SADS.

His father Dr David Ashton (pictured) says there was no warning anything was wrong and there was nothing about it being Christmas Day which made any difference to his chances (audio file attached):

The funeral takes place at Douglas Crematorium at 2.45pm.

Donations in Luke's memory will be passed on to the Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science.

They can be sent to Dr Ashton, c/o 44 Chancellor's Close, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 3UJ.
