Corporation tackles chewing gum problem

Douglas Corporation is making a big effort to tackle the town's chewing gum problem.

Thousands of discarded lumps of the substance have been trodden into the ground, particularly in the main shopping streets, and an expensive piece of equipment has been bought to try and clean up the area.

Chairman of the Public Works Committee, Ritchie McNicholl (pictured) says it's a time consuming job and he is appealing to all gum chewers to use the bins provided.

He says it's a universal problem, and he has his own solution:
