Developer jailed

A Douglas property director has been jailed for 15 months for the manslaughter of a tenant.

Lionel Barry Diamond - who appeared for sentence at Douglas Court House today, has also fined ?8,500.

Diamond had previously been found guilty of the manslaughter of Mark Doyle, who died in a blaze at one of his properties in Desmesne Road.

58 year old Diamond from Westbourne Drive in Douglas had been found guilty of breaching fire regulations at the property after a two week trial last month.

Mark Doyle a 46 year old married man with two children, from West Kirby in Merseyside, died from smoke inhalation at a flat owned by Diamond's company, in march 2004

The court was told the blaze broke out in the kitchen - which lacked a door, and spread rapidly throughout the building. The fire door to Mr Doyle's bedroom did not close.

Diamond has also been fined ?8,500 for the offences.
