RNLI commemorates founder today

by isleofman.com 4th January 2007
Members of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and the Manx Government will meet this afternoon (Thurs) to mark the launch of the RNLI developed Man Overboard System, MOB Guardian.

The launch of the safety system, which gives out a signal to indicate the whereabouts of man who may have fallen into the sea, co-incides with the birthday of RNLI founder Sir William Hillary.

Tom Bryan-Brown from the Manx Fish Producers Association says whilst he the system is still in its infancy he believes it's the way forward for many fishermen, and he welcomes the fact that it will be heavily subsidised by manufacturers, the RNLI and the Manx government, to reduce its cost to fishermen from almost ?2000 to just ?100 plus VAT:
